Prof. Oliver Fiehn has pioneered developments and applications in metabolomics with over 400 publications to date, starting in 1998 as postdoctoral scholar and from 2000 onwards as group leader at the Max-Planck Institute for Molecular Plant Physiology in Potsdam, Germany. Since 2004 he is Professor at the UC Davis Genome Center, overseeing his research laboratory and the satellite core service laboratory in metabolomics research. Since 2012, he is Director of the UC Davis West Coast Metabolomics Center, supervising 40 staff operating 19 mass spectrometers. To focus on large cohort studies and translational metabolomics, he has added the ThermoFisher Center of Excellence in Clinical Metabolomics at the UC Davis clinical campus in Sacramento, CA.

Prof. Fernanda Rey-Stolle is a senior lecturer and researcher at San Pablo CEU University since 1994. In 1990 she obtained with honours her degree in Chemistry (Physical Chemistry speciality), winning also the first national award. She was granted a PhD fellowship from the Educational Ministry of Spain and in 1993 got her PhD title. Since 2013 she is a member of CEMBIO (Center of Excellence in Metabolomics and Bioanalysis), focusing her research on the application of the GC/MS technique to metabolomic studies. She has participated in 18 Projects and/or Research Contracts, in 2 of them as PI. She is co-author of more than 30 Scientific Articles and Book Chapters published in International Journals and Editorials. She has presented more than 70 oral communications and posters in relevant International and National Meetings. She has been a member of the scientific/organizing committee of 11 International and National Congresses.

Dr. Christina Troyer is a Senior Scientist at the Institute of Analytical Chemistry, Department of Chemistry at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU), Vienna, since 2015. After her PhD at the Vienna University of Technology, she moved to BOKU, where she has been in charge of establishing GC-MS-based analytical techniques for metabolomics, including from 2009 to 2015 within ACIB (Austrian Center of Industrial Biotechnology) prior to taking up her current position. For more than 10 years, her main focus has been on method development using both MS/MS and high-resolution MS instrumentation with front end GC separation. In particular, she has developed methods for quantitative analysis, metabolic flux analysis and 13C-tracer experiments for metabolomics in the context of biotechnology (microbial cell factories). Apart from her involvement in metabolomics, she is also responsible for method development for GC-MS-based small molecule analysis in cooperation with a wide range of academic and industrial partners.
